Officials to mark beginning of Gary force main replacement project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan (IN-1), and Gary Mayor Jerome Prince will hold a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of a force main replacement project:

WHEN:       Tuesday, April 19, 2022

WHERE:    Corner of 25th Avenue and Chase Street - Gary, IN

TIME:         1:30 p.m.

The project will address sanitary sewer force main improvements on publicly-owned property east of Chase Street between the Chase Street pump station and 25th Avenue within the City of Gary, Indiana. The plan includes installing approximately 1,900 feet of new 48-inch diameter force main, of which 300 feet will cross under I-80.

This project is part of the Calumet Region Environmental Infrastructure Section 219 program and has been allocated $3,624,419 of federal funding. Projects under this authority are cost shared at 75% federal and 25% nonfederal sponsor. The nonfederal sponsor, the City of Gary, provided a 25% cash match of $1,199,805.
