Officials mark start of
Crown Point sewer improvement project
Chicago
(May 2, 2016) – Today the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rep. Pete Visclosky
(IN-1), and Mayor David Uran and City of Crown Point officials held a ground
breaking ceremony to mark the start of a sewer improvement project in Crown
Point, Ind.
The
project involves lining approximately 1,600 linear feet of existing sanitary
sewer lines. The work will be done in utility right-of-way and easement
locations across Crown Point. In addition, manholes in these areas will be
inspected, relined and repaired as needed.
“Today marks the beginning of an important sewer
improvement construction project here in the City of Crown Point,” Lt. Col. Kevin
Lovell, deputy commander, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District, said.
“Partnerships are the key to successful projects like this. We look forward to
improving the efficiency and capability of the sewage system in this city.”
The proposed project will help reduce potential groundwater
pollution from the leaking sanitary sewer system, and a reduce cases of
sanitary sewer backups into residences and treatment plant bypasses.
“The
City of Crown Point appreciates the partnership from Congressman Visclosky and
the Army Corps of Engineers,” Crown Point Mayor David Uran said. “With their
support this project helps in our ongoing efforts to improve our overall
infrastructure as well as provide a positive impact to the Briarwood residents,
preserving property values and improving their quality of life."
"I
appreciate the consistent diligence of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and
Crown Point officials, including Mayor David Uran, to invest in our economic
infrastructure,” Rep. Peter Visclosky, said. “Their good work improves the
lives of everyone living and working in the Crown Point region today, and will
improve the lives of those who are drawn to this area, because of investments
like this, in the future."
Projects under this authority are cost shared at
75 percent federal and 25 percent nonfederal. This project received $750,000 in
federal funding. The local sponsor is the City of Crown Point. A contract was awarded to Industrial &
Environmental Services of Gary, Ind., on Sept. 30, 2015, for $ 781,156. Field
construction work started in April 2016.
