Spring Creek Valley

Spring Creek Valley is a large forest preserve in northern Cook County, Ill. The Forest Preserve District of Cook County started in 1955 to assemble the 3700-acre tract. Sections of the land were in crop production until recently, and extensive agricultural drainage systems that utilize ditches and tiles are found through much of the site. The objectives of this project include: the restoration of wetlands in the lower elevations throughout the project area by tile removal and ditch obstruction; the restoration of the appropriate flow regime and stability to the creek; and the removal of invasive species in wetlands and prairie/savanna buffers.
