    Expiration date: 5/10/2024

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, has issued a Public Notice regarding Section 408 Request 408-LRB-2023-0003. The applicant is proposing to remove the Amboy Mill Dam that failed in the spring of 2018. An interim emergency repair was implemented that year to safeguard public health and safety. The proposed grade control structures are designed to offer multiple benefits, including stabilizing existing stream bottom sediment at its current elevation, enabling safe passage for boats (such as canoes and kayaks), and creating quality pool habitat utilized by adult trout and other species.

Douglas Run was historically relocated, channelized, and the hydrologic sources of the stream have been disconnected from the waterway. Re-establishment of natural stream functions proposes to connect the stream with the floodplain and recharge the groundwater table. The connection of the stream with the floodplain will provide better support for the ground water system. This connection of the stream and flood plain will re-establish wetlands within the riparian buffers of the stream. In conjunction, LRG has identified thirteen tile drains and plans to reestablish the natural drainage patterns that existed prior to their installation.
