Colonel Frederic A. Drummond
As commander of the Chicago District, Colonel Frederic A. Drummond, Jr. is responsible for water resources development in the Chicago metropolitan area, an area of about 5,000 square miles with a population of about 8 million. The district's primary mission areas are flood damage reduction, navigation, shore protection, emergency management, environmental functions and support for others. He also serves as the Division Commander’s representative on various boards of the International Joint Commission.
Colonel Drummond enlisted in the Army in 1980 after graduating from Hastings High School, Hastings, Nebraska. Following Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO he served with 1/509th Airborne Battalion Combat Team in Italy, 618th Engineer Company (LE), 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC and participated in Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada). Colonel Drummond was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in the Nebraska National Guard upon graduation from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He was commissioned into the Army Corps of Engineers in 1989.
Colonel Drummond has served with the 307th Engineer Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division in Operation Desert Shield/Storm as a Engineer Platoon Leader in 4-325 Infantry Battalion (Gold Falcons) (82d), and Alpha Company, 16th Engineer Battalion, “Outlaws” where he spent one year in support of Task Force Eagle in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
In 2001, Colonel Drummond was assigned to the 20th Engineer Brigade as an XVIII Airborne Corps Engineer Planner. He has also served with the 82nd Airborne Division, deployed to Afghanistan where he established Provisional Reconstruction Teams and ARSOF Base Camps, then he was assigned to the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) as the Deputy Director of Ground Operations and as Executive Officer to the J3 Directorate. Colonel Drummond stood up and commanded the 1st Brigade Combat Team Special Troops Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division (Devil Strike). He deployed to Southern Iraq where he oversaw combat operations in Dhi-Qar, Muthanna, and Diwanyah provinces for 14 months. Following Battalion Command he served as the XVIII Airborne Corps G3 Rear before being assigned to United States Special Operations Command.
Colonel Drummond is a graduate of the Naval War College and holds a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies, a Master’s in Business Administration, and a BA in industrial and construction management. His Awards include; Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (3), Defense Meritorious Service Metal, Army Meritorious Service Medal (3), Army Commendation Medal (3), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (4), Army Superior Unit Award (2), Sapper Tab, Ranger Tab, and Master Parachutist Badge. |
