- Under the Freedom of
Information Act Program (FOIA) businesses, educational institutions, the
media, and the general public are allowed to review and/or obtain copies
of most Federal government records and documents. Requests must be
in writing, accurately describe the requested records, and state that
the requester agrees to pay any statutory fees. (See request form
attached.) Only documents that presently exist and are both
possessed and controlled by the Corps of Engineers are subject to
FOIA. Requested materials should be provided within twenty working
days of the request’s receipt.
Fees for FOIA requested documents are: $44.00/hour for
professional search and review time, $20.00/hour for clerical search and
review time, $0.15/ standard page, $2.50/oversized map or plan page,
$52.00/hour for computer search time. Non-commercial requesters
are entitled to two hours search time and/or one hundred free
pages. In some circumstances, requesters will be required to pay
for documents in advance.
You may use the Chicago District FOIA Request Form to
submit your request. Or you may submit a letter with the required
information.
