Gone: River Park dam one year later
A turtle from the Chicago River enjoys the riverbanks in River Park July 31, 2019. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chicago District removed non-native grasses and wildflowers from the banks and established riparian savanna in the park. The four-foot high concrete dam at the convergence of the North Branch of the Chicago River and the North Shore Channel on Chicago’s north side was a barrier to healthy ecosystems and was removed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chicago District in 2018.
