Officials to hold public meeting for 2016 Indiana Harbor dredging start

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and East Chicago Waterway Management District will hold a public meeting to present this year’s Indiana Harbor and Canal dredging schedule and activities:

WHEN: Wednesday, June 15, 2016

WHERE: City Hall, Annex Building, 4444 Railroad Ave., East Chicago, Ind.

TIME: 6 p.m.

The current dredging and confined disposal facility (CDF) operation is being done by a joint venture between Durocher Marine (a division of Kokosing Construction Company, Inc.) and O'Brien & Gere. This contract started in 2011 and will end on Sept. 30, 2016. All 2016 dredging is scheduled to be completed before Sept. 30, 2016.

A new dredging and CDF operation contract will then be awarded to continue work from Oct. 1, 2016, to Sept 30, 2021. The local sponsor is the East Chicago Waterway Management District.
