SAFETY NOTICE TO BOATERS USING THE CHICAGO HARBOR LOCK: Key things to bear in mind as we head into recreational boating season. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District, is testing the use of a trained dog at the Chicago Harbor Lock. Boaters are advised to secure their pets when transiting the lock. Do not attempt to interact with the dog. Passengers transiting the lock must remain onboard their vessel. Anyone leaving their boat and entering lock property is subject to arrest. All passengers on recreation vessels, including those inside the cabin, must wear a personal flotation device (PFD) while locking through the Chicago Harbor Lock. Please put on your PFD BEFORE entering the lock chamber.
